Holding Hands at Paschendal opened as part of the Belfast Festival at Queens and is based on the true experiences of Martin Lynch’s grandfather. The production follows the lives of two men during the 3rd. Battle of Paschendale in 1917.
Mo Coutts (Freddie White) is a London eastender arrested at the front for suspected cowardice. Willie Harvey (Ciaran McMenamin) is the Belfast man ordered to do the arrest. Stuck together for four unremitting days and nights, the two men are confronted with Mo’s tragic predicament. Holding Hands At Paschendale is an exploration of men driven to the limits of human endurance. The results could be surprising.
